When I first got "Piano Accordio" for the iPad by Living Transient Inc, I was amazed that it was a full 120 bass button implementation, and I was very excited. However, I found it very difficult to play. Why? Well, because the buttons were arranged like on a real accordion, which is played facing away from you. So for the fingers to be in the correct position, I couldn't see the screen of the iPad. I found it could be played by placing it on a music stand and then peeking around the edge to see the screen, but that was an uncomfortable playing position. I was practicing to play Swanee River on it, but I was not able to play the piece smoothly in that awkward position. In contrast, the Accordéon program by Alex Komarov Inc had the buttons arranged so that they could be played with the iPad lying flat on the desk, looking down from above. Unfortunately this program was a very minimal implementation having only eight bass buttons, four bass note buttons and four chord buttons. Still, it was enough to play Swanee River. Well, guess what? the "Piano Accordio" program just got updated with a new feature. You can now reverse the orientation of the rows of buttons, thus making it more natural to play with the iPad lying flat on the desk and looking down from above. Although I had practiced two weeks unsuccessfully using the previous button orientation, after only one hour of practice using the new button orientation I was able to make this video.
